A Return to Splat-stick

Sam Raimi is back in his bag with Send Help, a survival thriller that manages to be both a nail-biting horror and a properly dark comedy. If you missed the "Splat-stick" energy of his early work, this plane crash from hell is exactly the tonic you need. Rachel McAdams proves once again she can do anything, pivoting from a meek corporate strategist to a terrifyingly efficient survivalist without breaking a sweat.

It is a cocktail of Castaway and Misery seasoned with Raimi's special sauce and a hint of absolute madness.

The Power Dynamic Shifts

The film follows two coworkers: the hardworking Linda (McAdams) and her absolute tosser of a boss, Bradley (Dylan O'Brien), who end up stranded on a deserted island after a catastrophic flight. What starts as a fight against nature quickly devolves into a hilarious, gruesome battle of wills. Raimi’s signature camera work is all over this, making a tropical paradise feel as claustrophobic and dangerous as a haunted cabin in the woods.
