Thunderbolts Review – Marvel Finally Hits Again | PlayWatch

Dark, funny, punchy — Marvel’s back on track.

Thunderbolts* arrives with the weight of expectation and the sting of recent misfires. But good news — they’ve pulled it off. This one juggles dark themes, action, and laughs really well — like, surprisingly well. And it’s great to say: it just works.

Misfits Done Right

This crew of outcasts just… clicks. The tone’s tight — dark enough to feel like it matters, but with enough humour and heart that you’re actually invested. It's not silly, not over-the-top. It feels like Marvel remembered what made things like Infinity War land — character dynamics and clean storytelling — but stripped it all back.

Florence Pugh: Certified MVP

Let’s be real — Florence Pugh owns this movie. Yelena has that perfect mix of sarcasm, sadness, and badassery. David Harbour is brilliant too. His Red Guardian stuff is hilarious without undercutting the emotion. Their back-and-forth totally carries the film. Everyone else is good, but those two? Chef’s kiss.

Big Action, Balanced Laughs

The action’s tight and clean — not overdone, not shaky-cam chaos, just well-paced and satisfying. It doesn’t try to out-Marvel itself with sky beams or multiversal noise, and thank god for that. What’s here hits hard and looks good doing it.

But it’s the balance of humour that really surprised me. There are moments that land so naturally, you forget this team’s supposed to be the rougher, darker corner of the MCU. The jokes don’t undercut the emotion, either — they give it space to breathe.

The Thunderbolt* Highlights

✅ Florence Pugh and David Harbour = gold
✅ Balances dark themes and humour like a pro
✅ Action and score both hit

Is Thunderbolts* Worth Watching?

Thunderbolts* feels like the most Marvel movie we’ve had in ages — and not in the bloated, cameo-filled kind of way. Just strong writing, great cast, some surprising emotion, and enough punchy action to leave you smiling. It’s a win.
